Well, I've made lots of progress on my log cabin. I'd say it's about 30% done. However, one thing I didn't plan on when starting it is causing a problem.
When I began the afghan I was using scrap yarn. After the initial center rectangle (that's right, mine is rectangular instead of square), I'd been doing 6 rows of each color. I love the blocks of color and it's looking great.
Here's where the problem comes in. It's big enough now, about 24" x 20", that it takes a good chunk of yarn to finish those 6 rows. I don't have a lot of leftover yarn that has that much left on it. The log cabin might have to take a back seat until I can finish some more projects (leaving me some more extra yarn) or until I can get to the store to pick some out. And if I buy a bunch at the store, I run the risk of it being all matchy matchy.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hmmm...
I shall think on it. :D
Oh, and getting that much done? Totally rocks.
Good for you getting that much done!!
How about finding sale yarns at the stores and using those? That way you're not paying a lot of money on more yarn???
Are you doing the garbage bag method so your colors are random? If so, you could still pull out the next 5 or 6 colors and take a piece of them, in order (just tie them together), to serve as swatches to the store and buy the closest color to them. You don't have to worry about matchy-matchy that way.
I have just been pulling out random balls and useing them up until they are gone then picking up another one.
Well, it's not exactly garbage bag because I've been trying to choose colors that look at least decent together. So basically, I could just go to the store and buy whatever I wanted.
